Science Perspective

Amelia and Bo wrote a perspective for Science about methane oxidizing bacteria that are finally decoupled from their syntrophic partners.

You can find the perspective here. The perspective is with reference to an article in Science by Scheller et al. In this article, the authors managed to decouple ANME-type 2 from their sulfate reducing partners with the help of electron acceptors like chelated – Fe III. The paper can be found here.

Also, scientists are tweeting about this.

New team member

On March 1st, Paola Andrea Palacios Jaramillo, will join our team. Paola will isolate methanogens which corrode iron, and will investigate how we can prevent corrosion induced by these organisms.

Paola finished her masters in Microbiology last September, at Aix-Marseille University. We are all very excited to meet and work with Paola.

Electric interactions meet thermodynamics

Amelia: I will be in New Castle on the 31st of March, where I will be giving an invited lecture about electric interspecies interactions for Master students at the School of Civil Engineering and Geoscience at New Castle University. Afterwards, I’m really enthusiastic to finally meet and converse about the thermodynamics of direct electron transfer with brilliant scientists at New Castle University.
